How is heart rate variability analyzed in Welltory

How Welltory turns your HRV measurement into personalized Stress and Energy scores using RMSSD, SDNN, and your own baseline

Written by Mark

Welltory analyzes heart rate variability using standard time-domain measures, including RMSSD and SDNN, and turns them into personalized Stress and Energy scores compared against your own baseline rather than a population average. You can take a measurement with your phone camera, an Apple Watch, or a connected heart rate monitor — no dedicated wearable is required. Unlike tools that report raw HRV numbers alone, Welltory interprets what your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is doing right now, in plain language.

In the analysis of heart rate variability, we use different statistical, geometric, and spectral methods: standard deviations for RR intervals, RMSSD, etc.

To spare you the trouble of going through all of them, we use two main wellness indicators: Stress and Energy.

What do Stress and Energy mean in app

  • Stress — this indicator reflects the activity of the sympathetic nervous system.

  • Energy — this indicator shows what the parasympathetic nervous system is up to.

Note! In the free app measurement details are available for three days since signup. At the end of this period, Measurement details will only be available for those measurements that were taken during these three days.
