LifeLogging: a digital autobiography that can improve your life

Written by Mark

If you are struggling to manage your finances, you should start tracking your income and expenses. If you need to tune up your eating patterns, you start tracking what you eat and drink each day, counting “calories in” and “calories out.” And when you can't figure out what causes your mood swings, you start keeping a diary.

Keeping a diary or journal is a great way to remember events and activities, express your emotions, and keep your thoughts organized. Recent studies show that journal-keeping not only helps you gain insight into your lifestyle but also can provide substantial health benefits.

Welltory offers you several ways to keep track of your life.

Track your places and whereabouts

If you use the full version of Welltory, you can integrate it with Swarm by Foursquare, a widely used app that empowers users to check in at their exact locations.

Unlike automatic or background location tracking, Swarm focuses on manual check-ins. If you grant Swarm background location access, it can proactively suggest places you've visited for retrospective check-ins. This feature relies on your location history and seeks your approval before logging any visit.

You can delve into graphs and analytics derived from your Swarm check-ins in the Environment category of the Data section.

To connect the Swarm app to Welltory:

  1. Go to My data (for Android users — Data).

  2. In the Environment category, connect Swarm.

  3. Allow Swarm to always access your location (not only while in use).

To disconnect the Swarm app from Welltory:

  1. Go to My data (for Android users — Data).

  2. In the Environment category, disconnect Swarm.

Tag what's important

Add information about anything that happens to you using tags — go with popular ones or create your own.

You can add tags whenever you want — just tap the plus sign in the upper right corner and choose your events. This feature will help you remember and make sense of what happens in your life.

Your tags also trigger the recommendations we send to your feed to help you feel better. For example, if you let us know that you have a headache, suffer from insomnia, or experience symptoms of a panic attack, we'll send you science-backed tips to help you manage your condition here and now.

Besides, we use your tags when analyzing your health & activity data.

Track your mood and how you feel physically

Right below the tags, you'll see mood & health askers. Fill them out in the morning to evaluate your sleep quality and in the evening to see how productive your day was. Or use these daily askers to track your mood swings and health improvements.

We'll analyze this info and sort it into charts that help you gain insights into your habits and identify what needs to change.

If you fill out these askers daily, you'll be able not only to keep an eye on your data trends but also to spot the correlations between your mood, health, and lifestyle.

To compare your mood & health charts with your measurement results, go to My data (for Android users — Data), head to the Heart category, and flick through the screen until you reach the Self-reported mood and Self-reported health charts. To check out the results of productivity & sleep self-tracking, go to the respective categories.

Track your weight and blood pressure metrics

By keeping track of your blood pressure readings, you may notice the issues that may need your attention and action. Such self-monitoring is also an essential thing if you've been diagnosed with elevated, high, or low blood pressure.

Tap a respective button under mood and health askers to enter your blood pressure numbers manually. If you add your numbers regularly, you'll get not only detailed analytics based on the latest clinical guidelines but also science-backed recommendations and health hacks to help control your blood pressure.

And if you enter your weight, we'll show you trends and changes in charts so you can reach your fitness goals faster. Plus, once you've synced Apple Health or Health Connect, we'll send your data to these apps so you can always keep track of your weight.

Describe the important moments of the day

In addition to using tags, you can add personal notes to capture key moments of your day in more detail. These notes will enhance your well-being analysis by preserving important insights.

To add a note, tap the plus sign in the top-right corner of your feed and enter your text in the «Share your thoughts…» form. You can record your thoughts or observations about specific events or tags, then save them.

At the moment, notes aren’t yet viewable, but they will soon be accessible with the launch of Welltory’s new journal feature. This update will integrate your notes into a personal journal, contributing to a more detailed analysis of your daily well-being and mood.

Stay tuned for updates on when notes become available in the new journal, so you can dive even deeper into your day-to-day insights and uncover connections in your lifestyle.
